How did the Syrian revolution influence the visual arts in Syria and in diaspora? Does visual art help in creating different narratives - or is its role only visible in galleries and museums? How can socially engaged art practices be used as creative ways to advocate for people's causes? After a short presentation of the art scene in Syria before and after 2011, artist Khaled Barakeh will talk about the importance of artistic activism as a tool of resistance, resilience, and renewal. He will present his new installation MUTE that he exhibited in front of the Regional High Court in Koblenz. Fadwa Mahmoud and Mariam Alhallak will talk about the role of victims' families in the struggle to achieve accountability for cases that are related to human rights violations committed in Syria, while Legal Investigator Leila Sibai will shed light on the strategies and steps required in seeking justice for Syrians. Where are we today and what are our plans for the future?
