Nada Ali
The Gods disciplined Sisyphus by being forced to roll an immense boulder up a hill only for it to roll down every time it comes up to the top, repeating this action for eternity. Through the classical influence on modern culture, tasks that are both difficult and fruitless are therefore described as Sisyphean. The story of Sisyphus may be a metaphor for what the Syrians, for example, are experiencing in our time. As if they, the Syrians, are forever condemned to suffering and hopeless struggle. The Syrians do no longer doubt when this torment would stop, but they are asking "Is there anything worse than the current torment?" COVID-19 pandemic has proved that the answer is “yes”. Things can continuously get worse. Albert Camus thinks that Sisyphus has personified the nonsense, absurdity, irrationality, or the lack of rationality of human life, but he says, “One must imagine Sisyphus happy”.
The absurdity of life may be able to stimulate laughter and ridicule.
About the Artist
Nada Ali is a Syrian-born artist based in Stockholm. Currently an MFA student at the Royal Institute of Art. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus 2009, with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, specialized in mural painting.
For Nada, art is cathartic and therapeutic. By making art, she tries to make sense of the world, and she seeks solace from the unending complications humans have created. To her, art is not only an expression of lived experience but also a way of living.

عاقبت الآلهة سيسفوس بإرغامه على حمل صخرة ضخمة على تل منحدر، ولكن ما كان يحدث هو أنه قبل أن يبلغ سيسفوس قمة التل، تفلت الصخرة منه ويكون عليه أن يبدأ من جديد مرة أخرى. ويظل هكذا إلى الأبد؛ حتى أصبح رمزاً للعذاب الأبدي. قد تكون قصة سيسفوس مجازاً لما يعيشه السوريون في عصرنا الراهن، على سبيل المثال لا الحصر. كأنه قد حُكم عليهم إلى الأبد بالعيش بصراع لا جدوى منه ولا طائل. لم يعد السوريون يتساءلون متى يتوقف هذا العذاب، بل أصبحوا يتساءلون "هل يوجد أسوأ من هذا العذاب؟" أثبتت جائحة العصر أن الإجابة "نعم"... يمكن للأمور أن تتجه نحو الأسوأ. يرى ألبير كامو أن سيسفوس يجسد هراء وسخف ولا منطقية ولا عقلانية الحياة الإنسانية، ولكنه يقول "لا بد أن يتخيل المرء أن سيسفوس سعيد ومسرور“. قد يكون لعبثية الحياة قدرةً على إثارة الضحك و السخرية!
عن الفنّان
ندى علي فنانة من مواليد سوريا، تعيش و تعمل حالياً في ستوكهولم. تخرجت ندى علي من كلية الفنون الجميلة في دمشق عام 2009 حيث حصلت على درجة بكالوريوس في الفنون الجميلة تخصص الرسم الجداري. تَعتبر ندى أن الفن يوفر لها الراحة النفسية و العلاج. تحاول ندى علي أن تفهم العالم بالفن، وتطلب العزاء من المضاعفات التي لا نهاية لها التي أوجدها البشر باللجوء إلى الفن. تعتبر ندى علي أن الحاجة إلى التعبير عن عاطفة أو فكرة هي السبب الرئيسي في صنع الفن.

Die Götter bestraften Sisyphus und zwungen ihn dazu, einen riesigen Felsbrocken einen Hügel hinaufzurollen, der dann jedes Mal, wenn er sich der Spitze näherte, wieder herunterrollte – und dieser Prozess wiederholte sich bis in alle Ewigkeit. Im übertragenden Sinn von der klassischen auf die moderne Kultur werden Aufgaben, die sowohl mühsam als auch vergeblich sind, daher als Sisyphus-Aufgaben bezeichnet.
Die Geschichte von Sisyphus mag eine Metapher für das sein, was beispielsweise Syrer in unserer Zeit erleben. Als wären die Syrer, für immer zu Leiden und nutzlosem Kampf verurteilt. Fragen dazu, wann diese Qual aufhört, werden nicht mehr gestellt, sondern eher die Frage "Gibt es etwas Schlimmeres als diese Qual?" Die Pandemie dieser Zeit hat diese Frage eher bejaht ... Es kann immer schlimmer werden.
Albert Camus glaubt, dass Sisyphus Unsinn, Absurdität, Irrationalität oder den Mangel an Rationalität des menschlichen Lebens verkörpert hat, aber er sagt: "Man muss sich Sisyphus als glücklich vorstellen."
Die Absurdität des Lebens kann Lachen und Spott hervorrufen!
Über den Künstler
Nada Ali ist eine in Syrien geborene Künstlerin, die derzeit in Stockholm lebt und arbeitet. Sie absolvierte die Fakultät für Bildende Künste in Damaskus 2009 mit einem Bachelor-Abschluss in Bildender Kunst, der auf Wandmalerei spezialisiert ist. Für Nada hat Kunst kathartische und therapeutische Funktionen. Durch Kunst versucht sie, die Welt zu verstehen, und sie sucht Trost von den endlosen durch Menschen verursachten Komplikationen. Das Bedürfnis, eine Emotion oder eine Idee auszudrücken, ist der größte Motivator für ihre künstlerische Tätigkeit.
